Documents required for UK Settlement Visa from India

Hi there..

The small matters of life.. most of the small small moments in life are boring for us, just because we dont have eyes open enough to see the beauty of them. dont you feel so, at least sometimes? I am writing here few of them from my life, that would certainly increase the beauty of my days, I am sure about that...

Well, I just reached UK with a settlement visa. I thought I would share with you my experiences of waiting for settlement visa. I was trying to join my husband in UK just after my marriage. After lots of research I did about what all documents they want, I created the following list:

  1. Filled in application form. You may need to mention the date you wish to travel. Normally they give visa from the date of travel you mention in the form.
  2. Sponsorship undertaking form signed by sponsor
  3. Property details of the house applicant is going to live in UK. For our rented house, we provided the following: House photographs, rent receipts, rent agreement and inventory list.
  4. Passport copies of sponsor
  5. Entry and exit stamps of sponsor's trips to India while I was there.
  6. Employer certificate for sponsor
  7. Salary slips of 6 months to 1 year, of sponsor
  8. P60 for 3 years
  9. Water, electricity and gas bills from sponsor
  10. Latest salary appraisal letters and other documents which may prove that sponsor has a good and stabilised job.
  11. Bank statements of 6 months from sponsor. If applicant has no funds, sponsor's bank statements should show that he has enough money every month to afford spouse. It should not have overdraft, if that leads to the conclusion that sponsor has more expenditures than income.
  12. Marriage certificate
  13. Wedding photographs and other photographs showing the visits of sponsor to applicant.
  14. Letters, phone calls showing how long husband and wife know each other.
  15. Documents related to the marriage, to prove that wedding was legal and it happened really. Wedding invitation card, greeting cards received etc.
  16. Refusal letters if visa has got refused earlier
  17. Monthly income expenditure budgets of sponsor, if you think income is less but still sponsor can afford applicant. The listing of income and expenditure should show that you both will be able to live happily without recourse to public funds.
  18. Separate letters from both, stating how the relationship started, how it progressed etc.
  19. Proof of any other information you are providing in the application form.
  20. Qualifications of applicant if applicant is willing to work in UK.

Ideally, you should have all documents proving that you both are legally married and there is no need of public funds.

Hope this information helps for those who are confused about what all documents to submit.

Hi,

My apologies. I was not here any more and I realize that there were many comments / questions for me. Those who asked me questions might be in UK already. However, I would like to update this for others who are still reading these notes to see what all documents are required. Please remember the immigration laws might have changed now, so please read the laws/document list in the UK official website before applying.

Someone was asking about ILR. Yes, it takes 2 years to apply for ILR.

Someone was asking how long it took. It took 2 months for processing. But I know the time will be different during different periods depending on how busy they are.

Some were asking for clarifications about documents. Ideally, visa officer should get convinced that you are a legal entrant with enough finance to live. Whatever helps for them to get that idea, submit them. That can be the yardstick in knowing which all documents to be submitted.

If anyone is trying to find some details about how to start looking for job, please let me know I may be able to help.

I wish you good luck.
